The Scholar in the Middle family is heartbroken by the tragic death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley following an officer-involved shooting in Senatobia, Mississippi.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kohen’s family, loved ones, and all those affected by this unimaginable loss. No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child. The death of a one-year-old has shaken communities across North Mississippi and the Mid-South, leaving many grieving and searching for answers.

As details continue to emerge, we join community members in calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. Let us be unequivocally clear: The public deserves clear and timely answers, and Kohen’s family deserves justice. Demanding transparency and integrity from all involved agencies, Chief Harold Vanderford of the Senatobia Police Department and Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Herzog of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have been provided a copy of this statement.

While investigators work to determine the facts, we remain steadfast in our belief that every scholar deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential. That future was tragically taken from Kohen and his family far too soon, but his loss serves as a solemn reminder of our collective responsibility to protect, support, and uplift the next generation.

Today, we stand with Kohen's family. We mourn alongside them, pray for them, and join their call for answers. May Kohen’s memory be honored through a commitment to justice, transparency, and the protection of all scholars.

In Pursuit of Justice,

Rev. Cameron Kuykindall & Nicolas Snipes
